Finnish campaign raised domestic violence as a national topic

HelsinkiFamily Federation of Finland has ended its yearlong campaign against domestic violence.  The campaign was targeted at young couples and men because studies have shown that in Finland young women are most often the victims of domestic violence.

Supporters of the campaign included the Speaker of the Finnish Parliament, Mr. Sauli Niinistö, and Chief of Defence, Mr. Juhani Kaskeala, including a number of male musicians, actors and sportsmen.

Domestic violence hasn’t significantly fallen in Finland during the past ten years but it is being discussed more frequently and openly. Also, reporting violence to the police is now more common, the Family Federation says.
