Forging Alliances with Academia
The credibility and expertise of UNFPA is bolstered by close contacts that the European Liaison Offices maintain with a number of academic institutions. These relationships facilitate knowledge sharing and networking with health, development and communications experts. They are also important when the offices solicit expert opinion or arrange speakers for major conferences.
Each year, the Geneva Office prepares a seminar on international organizations as part of the Intercultural Communication and European Studies (ICEUS) programme at the University of Applied Sciences in Fulda Germany.
Through the University of Lausanne’s annual International Career Day fair, the Geneva Office disseminates information about career and internship possibilities with students.
The Brussels Office facilitates UNFPA collaboration with academic institutions such as the International Centre for Reproductive Health of the University of Ghent and with the University of Heidelberg’s Department of Tropical Hygiene and Public Health Short Course on Health and Human Rights.
The Nordic Office works closely with the Institute of Public Health and Roskilde University in Denmark on sexual and reproductive health and development issues, and collaborates on communication projects with the University of Jyväskylä in Finland.
